Covid highlighted the fragility of life and called for a deeper sense of meaning and societal connectivity, the UK’s exit from the European Union together with climate issues has generated ongoing concerns about food shortages and disruptions in food supply chains.

This has called for a comprehensive reevaluation of the needs and desires of the urban citizens, particularly in relation to food growing, food consumption, and drawing on food to express community and host conviviality between diverse cultures and urban nationalities.

It has also made apparent the significance of easy access to fresh ingredients, the importance       of a balanced diet, and the role of being able to prepare and cook food with local knowledge in order to maintain physical and mental health. Supplementary to this revaluation has been the shift in working patterns and the desire for a more sustainable, simple lifestyle, in closer proximity to nature and in tune with the body, environment and mindfulness.
